How it works

Three steps. No heavy lifting.

Tell us about the couch, choose a time, and a local crew gets it out of your home.

1

Tell us about the couch

Sofa, sectional or sleeper, plus where it sits and any stairs on the way out.

2

Pick a day and pickup type

Same-day in most areas when you book early. In-home or curbside.

3

Watch it leave

The crew carries it out, loads it up and donates or recycles what it can.

What's included

Couch haul away without lifting a finger

Old couches are heavy, awkward and almost never fit in a car. Getting one out of the house usually means recruiting friends, renting a truck and finding somewhere that will actually take it. JunkHaulAwayPros skips all of that. You tell us what's going, pick a time, and a local crew handles the rest from start to finish.

  • Removal from any room. Point to the couch and the crew carries it out.
  • Disassembly when needed. Legs, sleeper mechanisms and sectional pieces come apart on site.
  • Loading and hauling. It leaves on the truck the same visit, with no wait for bulk trash day.
  • A clean spot left behind. The crew sweeps up the dust and crumbs underneath.

It doesn't matter whether the couch is in the living room, a finished basement or a third-floor walk-up. The crew comes prepared with moving blankets, straps and basic tools, and they're used to working around family photos, narrow hallways and freshly painted walls.

Every style, every size

Sofa, sectional or loveseat: we take them all

Size, style and condition don't matter. Whether it's a worn-out futon from a first apartment or a nine-piece modular sectional, the crew can remove it. Leather, fabric, microfiber and vinyl are all fine, and so are couches with pet damage, stains or broken frames.

Sofas

Standard three-seat couches in fabric, leather or microfiber.

Sectionals

L-shaped, U-shaped and modular sets, separated on site.

Loveseats

Two-seat sofas from living rooms, dens and sunrooms.

Sleeper sofas

Pull-out beds with heavy steel frames, folded and secured.

Recliners

Manual and power recliners, including reclining sofas.

Futons

Metal and wood frames along with their mattresses.

Chaise lounges

Fainting couches, daybeds and single-arm chaises.

Ottomans & chairs

Matching pieces from the same set go in the same trip.

Getting rid of more than a couch? Add the coffee table, recliner or that old mattress to the same pickup. One visit is easier than scheduling several, and the crew can take everything in a single trip as long as it isn’t hazardous.

Schedule your couch pickup

Common reasons

When people call for sofa removal

Every couch has a story, and the reason it's leaving usually shapes the pickup. These are the situations we see most, along with what tends to help in each one.

A new couch is coming

Schedule removal a day or two before delivery so the room is clear and the new sofa goes straight into place.

You're moving

Not every couch is worth moving. Leave the old one behind and have it hauled out before the movers arrive.

A remodel or new flooring

Clear the living room before contractors start, so they have space to work and nothing gets damaged.

Settling an estate

Living room furniture is often part of a larger cleanout. Crews work carefully and set aside anything the family wants kept.

A move-out or turnover

Renters and landlords use couch pickup to empty a unit before the final walkthrough or the next tenant.

It's simply worn out

Sagging cushions, broken springs, a cracked frame or lingering odors are all good reasons to let it go.

On pickup day

What to expect when the crew arrives

Most couch pickups are wrapped up in well under an hour once the crew walks in. There's no need to measure, empty the room or drag anything to the curb first. Here's how the visit usually goes.

1

A heads-up first

You'll know your arrival window ahead of time, so you can plan the rest of your day around it.

2

A quick walkthrough

Point out what's going and what's staying. The crew checks the easiest route out of the house.

3

Careful removal

Background-checked pros protect floors and walls, take items apart if needed and carry everything out.

4

Swept and sorted

The area gets a quick sweep, and everything is sorted for donation, recycling or disposal.

Two ways to book

Pick the option that fits your day

There are two ways to schedule a couch pickup. Both end with the couch gone; the difference is who moves it outside and whether you need to be home.

In-home pickup

The crew comes inside and does all the lifting, including stairs, basements and tight hallways. It's the best fit for heavy sectionals and sleeper sofas. Someone lets the crew in, then you can relax.

Curbside pickup

Leave the couch on a porch, in the garage or at the end of the driveway, and you don't need to be home. It works well when the couch is already outside or for lighter loveseats and futons.

Not sure which one you need? Most people choose in-home pickup for anything that sits upstairs or in a basement, and curbside when the couch is already in the garage or on the porch.

Responsible disposal

Couch disposal, done the right way

A couch is more than one material. Once it's off your hands, it's sorted so each part can go where it does the most good. Furniture in usable condition is offered to local charities and resale shops first.

Couches that can't be reused are broken down into their parts. That keeps bulky furniture out of the landfill whenever practical. Donation always depends on condition, and local recycling options vary by area.

Stairs and doorways

Tight stairs, narrow doors and other tricky spots

Most couches came in through the front door, but plenty seem to have grown since. Basement stairs with a turn, apartment hallways and older homes with narrow frames can make a couch feel permanently stuck.

Crews deal with these spaces every day. They'll tilt the couch on end, pivot it around corners, pull the legs, remove cushions and separate sectional pieces to keep the move smooth. Doorframes, railings and floors are protected along the way.

If a couch truly won't fit, it can be taken apart on site. Just mention it when you book so the crew brings the right tools. A quick photo of the couch and the route out, such as a stairway or hallway, helps the crew plan the job before they arrive.

Quick prep

Before the crew arrives

There's very little to do ahead of an old couch removal. You don't need to take anything apart, wrap the couch or move it closer to the door. Still, a few minutes of prep makes the visit faster and easier for everyone.

  1. Check the cushions. Look under and between them for remotes, keys, jewelry and anything else you'd want back.
  2. Clear a path. Move rugs, toys and small furniture out of the way between the couch and the door.
  3. Secure pets. Keep dogs and cats in another room while doors are open and furniture is moving.
  4. Note parking or access. Mention gate codes, elevator reservations or where the truck can park.

Weighing your options

Why not just haul it yourself?

You can, but moving an old sofa on your own takes more time and effort than most people expect. A full-size couch can weigh over 100 pounds, and sleepers or reclining sectionals weigh far more. Many cities also limit what goes out on bulk trash day, schedule those pickups weeks apart or charge separately for oversized items. Charities often decline couches with stains or wear, and landfills may require a truck, a trip across town and time waiting in line.

For a single small loveseat and a friend with a pickup truck, doing it yourself can make sense. For anything heavier, anything on another floor, or when your time is worth more than a weekend, a crew is the easier choice.

Couch Removal FAQ

Old couch removal questions

Don't see your question? Send us a note and we'll get back to you within one business day.

How much notice do you need to remove a couch?

Not much. Same-day couch removal is available in most areas when you book early in the day, and next-day pickup is available almost everywhere. If you're planning around a move, a furniture delivery or a lease end date, you can also schedule further ahead and pick the exact day and arrival window that works best. Mention any timing limits, like building move-in hours, when you request the pickup. Booking early in the week gives you the most flexibility on timing.

Will you take a couch that's ripped, stained or broken?

Yes. Condition doesn't matter for removal. Torn upholstery, broken frames, sagging springs, pet damage and water stains are all fine. Couches in rough shape simply skip the donation step and go straight to recycling and disposal. The only thing to mention ahead of time is anything unusual, like a couch that has been stored outdoors or is wet, so the crew can plan how to wrap and load it. Couches with pet hair or odors are fine, too.

Can you get a couch out of a basement or upstairs room?

Yes. With in-home pickup, the crew removes couches from basements, second floors, lofts and apartments with stairs or elevators. They'll work out the best route, protect railings and doorframes, and take the couch apart if it won't fit through a tight turn. Let us know about narrow stairways or low ceilings when you book, and include a photo if you can, so the right size crew is sent. Floors and walls are protected along the route out of the house.

Do I need to be home for the pickup?

Only for in-home pickup, since the crew needs to get inside. Someone just needs to be there to open the door and point out the couch, and then you're free to get on with your day. If you can't be there, choose curbside pickup and leave the couch on a porch, in the garage or at the end of the driveway, and it will be loaded and hauled away while you're out. If rain is in the forecast, cover a curbside couch or keep it in the garage.

Can you take other furniture in the same trip?

Absolutely, and it's usually the easiest way to do it. Recliners, coffee tables, end tables, ottomans, mattresses, bed frames and dressers can all go in the same pickup as your couch. If you're replacing a whole living room set or clearing out a room before a move, list everything when you book so the crew has enough truck space and time to remove it all in one visit. Combining items is usually easier than scheduling separate visits.
