How it works

Three steps. No heavy lifting.

Let us know what's going, choose a pickup time, and the crew takes the mattress from there.

Mattress, box spring or both, plus which floor the bedroom is on.

2

Same-day in most areas. In-home from the bedroom or curbside.

3

Sleep on something better

The crew carries it out and sends it to recycling where available.

What's included

Mattress haul away, start to finish

A mattress is floppy, heavy and hard to grip, which is why so many end up leaning against a wall for months. JunkHaulAwayPros takes care of it in one visit. You tell us the size, pick a time, and a local crew handles the carrying, loading and disposal.

  • Out of any bedroom. Upstairs, basement guest rooms and tight apartment hallways included.
  • Box springs and foundations. Take the whole set in the same trip.
  • Frames and headboards. Metal and wood bed frames can be taken apart and hauled too.
  • Sorted for recycling. Mattresses are sent to recyclers wherever they operate.

Bagging, wrapping or dragging the mattress to the curb isn't necessary. The crew lifts it straight off the bed or out of the closet and gets it on the truck without scraping walls or doorframes on the way out.

Every size and type

From twin to king: mattresses we pick up

If you sleep on it, the crew can haul it away. Innerspring, memory foam, hybrid and latex mattresses are all fine, along with the box springs, foundations and toppers that go with them. Stains, sagging and broken springs don't matter.

Twin & twin XL

Kids' rooms, dorm leftovers and daybed mattresses.

Full & queen

King & California king

Big, heavy mattresses carried out by two-person crews.

Box springs

Wood-and-steel foundations, including split box springs.

Memory foam & hybrid

Dense foam mattresses that are hard to fold or carry.

Futon & crib mattresses

Smaller mattresses from futons, cribs and toddler beds.

Adjustable bases

Motorized bases unplugged and carried out in one piece.

Toppers & pads

Foam toppers and pillow tops bagged up with the rest.

Common reasons

When it's time for mattress disposal

Most mattresses get replaced every seven to ten years, and the old one has to go somewhere. These are the most common reasons people book a mattress pickup.

A new mattress was delivered

Many deliveries don't include haul away, or charge extra for it. Book a pickup for the day after.

It's sagging or lumpy

Body impressions, poking springs and morning back pain are signs it's done.

Moving to a new home

Starting fresh is easier than paying movers to carry an old mattress across town.

Kids outgrew it

Cribs become toddler beds and twins become fulls. The smaller mattress can go.

Rental turnover

Landlords clear mattresses left behind before the next tenant moves in.

Spills, pets or allergies

Stains, odors and dust buildup are good reasons to start over with a clean bed.

On pickup day

What to expect when the crew arrives

A typical mattress pickup takes just a few minutes once the crew arrives. Strip the sheets if you can, and the crew handles everything else. Here's how the visit goes.

1

A heads-up first

You'll know your arrival window ahead of time, so you can plan the rest of your day around it.

2

A quick walkthrough

Point out what's going and what's staying. The crew checks the easiest route out of the house.

3

Careful removal

Background-checked pros protect floors and walls, take items apart if needed and carry everything out.

4

Swept and sorted

The area gets a quick sweep, and everything is sorted for donation, recycling or disposal.

Two ways to book

Inside the bedroom or at the curb

Choose the pickup style that suits your schedule. Both get the mattress off your property; the difference is how far it travels before the crew takes over.

In-home pickup

The crew comes in, lifts the mattress off the bed and carries it down the stairs and out the door. It's the best choice for king sizes, heavy foam mattresses and upstairs bedrooms.

Curbside pickup

Lean the mattress against the garage wall or set it by the driveway, and you don't need to be home. It's handy if the mattress is already out of the bedroom.

If rain is in the forecast and you're choosing curbside, keep the mattress in the garage or under cover. A soaked mattress gets much heavier and is harder to recycle.

Responsible disposal

Mattress recycling, not just the landfill

Mattresses take up a huge amount of landfill space and don't break down. Much of what's inside, though, can be recovered. After pickup, mattresses go to recycling facilities wherever they're available in your area.

Steel springs are recycled as scrap metal, foam can be turned into carpet padding, and wood frames from box springs are chipped or reused. What can't be recovered is disposed of at an approved facility. Gently used mattresses are rarely accepted for donation, so recycling is usually the best outcome.

Stairs and hallways

Big mattresses, small staircases

King mattresses and box springs are wide, stiff and easy to wedge in a stairwell. Split foundations and memory foam beds add their own challenges because they're dense and don't bend the way older mattresses do.

Crews know how to angle a mattress around a landing, tip a box spring on its side through a narrow door and keep it off freshly painted walls. If a frame or headboard is in the way, they can take it apart first.

Let us know if the bedroom is up a spiral staircase, at the end of a long apartment hallway or down a tight basement stairway, and the crew will plan the route before they arrive.

Quick prep

Getting ready for pickup

Very little prep is needed for a mattress removal. The crew will lift it, carry it and load it. A few small steps make the visit even quicker.

  1. Strip the bed. Pull off sheets, mattress protectors and pillows you want to keep.
  2. Check under it. Look for anything that slid between the mattress and box spring.
  3. Clear the path. Move laundry baskets, rugs and small furniture out of the hallway.
  4. Mention the frame. Let us know if the bed frame or headboard should go too.

Weighing your options

Can't I just leave it on the curb?

In many cities, no. A lot of municipalities don't take mattresses with regular trash, require them to be wrapped in plastic first, or only accept them on certain bulk pickup days. Some charge a separate fee or issue fines for mattresses left out at the wrong time. Donation centers rarely accept used mattresses, and getting one to a landfill means finding a truck and lifting a heavy, floppy load yourself.

If you have a truck, a strong friend and a recycler nearby, you can handle a twin mattress on your own. For anything larger, anything upstairs, or a whole bedroom set, a crew saves the hassle.

Mattress Removal FAQ

Mattress disposal questions

Don't see your question? Send us a note and we'll get back to you within one business day.

Do you take box springs and bed frames too?

Yes. Box springs, split foundations, metal frames, wooden frames, headboards and footboards can all go in the same pickup as the mattress. If the frame needs to come apart to get it out of the room, the crew can disassemble it on site. Just list everything when you book so the crew knows to bring tools and plans enough time to clear the whole bed in a single visit. Adjustable bases should be unplugged ahead of time so the crew can carry them out right away.

Will you take a mattress with stains or bed bugs?

Stains, tears, broken springs and sagging are no problem at all. If you know or suspect bed bugs, please mention it when you book. Infested mattresses usually need to be fully sealed in plastic before pickup to protect the crew and the truck, and some areas have specific rules for how they're handled. We'll let you know what's needed so the mattress can be removed safely. Bagging is usually required for suspected bed bugs to protect the crew and the next home.

Can you remove a mattress from an upstairs bedroom?

Yes. In-home pickup covers upstairs bedrooms, basement guest rooms, lofts and apartments on any floor, with stairs or an elevator. The crew carries the mattress out without dragging it across floors or scraping walls. For very tight staircases or a king-size box spring, let us know when you book so the crew can plan the best route out of the house. Floors and walls are protected along the route so nothing gets scuffed during the carry.

Is my old mattress recycled?

Whenever possible. Mattresses are taken to recycling facilities in areas where they operate, where steel springs, foam and wood are separated and recovered. In places without a mattress recycler nearby, the mattress goes to an approved disposal facility instead. Either way, it's handled properly, and you don't need to research local mattress rules or drive it anywhere yourself. Recycling availability varies by area, but mattresses are never left at the curb or dumped.

How quickly can you pick up a mattress?

Same-day mattress pickup is available in most areas when you book early, and next-day pickup is available almost everywhere. If you're timing it around a new mattress delivery, schedule the pickup for the same afternoon or the next morning so you're never without a bed. You'll get an arrival window ahead of time so you can plan the rest of your day. If the new mattress is delayed, the pickup can easily be moved to match.
