What's included

Backyard junk removal and debris cleanup

A yard cleanout goes beyond yard waste. It's the rusty patio set, the broken grill, the pile of old fencing, the abandoned kids' fort and the leaf piles that never made it to the curb. JunkHaulAwayPros clears all of it at once, so your yard goes from neglected to usable in an afternoon.

  • Junk and green waste. Outdoor furniture and brush piles in the same trip.
  • Every part of the yard. Front, back, side yards and along fences.
  • Play equipment. Swing sets, forts and trampolines taken apart.
  • Raked clean. Leftover debris raked up after the piles are gone.

Crews don't mow, trim or cut down trees, but they'll haul away whatever has been cut or piled. If you're preparing a yard for landscaping, a cleanout is the perfect first step.

Common reasons

When people need an outdoor cleanup

Yard cleanouts usually come before a big change. These are the most common reasons people call.

Selling the home

Curb appeal matters, and junk in the yard hurts listings.

New landscaping

Clearing the yard before a landscaper or new patio.

Rental turnover

Landlords clearing what tenants left in the yard.

Neglected property

Vacant or inherited homes with overgrown yards.

After a storm

Branches, debris and damaged outdoor furniture.

Code violations

Clearing junk to meet city or HOA requirements.

A closer look

From neglected to enjoyable

Yards have a way of collecting things. A broken patio chair gets set aside, a pile of branches waits for the next yard waste day, an old fence panel leans against the garage, and the kids’ playset slowly fades. A few seasons later, the yard is more storage area than living space, and it’s hard to know where to start.

A yard cleanout handles everything at once instead of chipping away at it piece by piece. Furniture, play equipment, scrap metal, tires and debris piles are all loaded in the same visit, along with brush and branches. That means one appointment instead of separate trips to the dump, the scrap yard and the compost site.

Neglected yards can also hide hazards. Broken glass, rusty nails, sharp metal and wasp nests are common in piles that have sat for a long time, and overgrown areas can hide holes and uneven ground. Crews work carefully through each area and rake up small debris so the yard is safe for kids and pets afterward.

Once the junk is gone, it’s much easier to plan what’s next. A clear yard is a blank canvas for new landscaping, a garden, a patio or simply a lawn that can be mowed again. For homes being sold, it also makes a strong first impression in listing photos and showings.

On pickup day

What to expect when the crew arrives

Most yard cleanouts take a few hours. The crew loads junk and debris, rakes up what's left and leaves the yard tidy. Here's how it goes.

1

Yard walkthrough

You point out what stays, like planters or tools, and what goes.

2

Junk first

Furniture, equipment and large items are loaded first.

3

Debris and green waste

Brush, branches and piles are loaded and sorted.

4

Raked and tidied

Loose debris is raked so the yard looks finished.

Two ways to book

Full yard or a few piles

Some yards need everything cleared. Others just have a few problem spots. The crew can handle either.

Full yard cleanout

The crew clears everything you don't want, working around plants, structures and items you're keeping. Best for neglected or inherited properties.

Pile pickup

Already gathered what's going? The crew loads the piles, and you don't need to be home.

If the yard has hazardous items like old fuel cans, paint or chemicals, set them aside for a hazardous waste drop-off before the crew arrives.

Responsible disposal

Yard junk sorted right

Yard cleanouts are a mix of materials, and much of it can be recovered. Green waste goes to composting and mulching facilities where available.

Metal furniture, grills and play equipment go to scrap recyclers, usable outdoor furniture may be donated and tires go to tire recyclers where accepted. Only what's left is disposed of properly.

Compost green wasteRecycle metal and tiresDispose of only what’s left

Overgrown and out of reach

Back fences, slopes and overgrowth

Neglected yards are hard to work in. Junk is often buried in overgrowth, piled behind fences or scattered across slopes, with no easy path back to the street.

Crews work through the yard methodically, carrying everything to the truck, watching for hidden hazards like broken glass and nails, and raking up the leftovers so the space is safe to walk on.

If the yard is heavily overgrown, steep or only reachable through a narrow gate, mention it when you book. Photos help the crew plan time and equipment.

Good to know

Yard cleanout basics

1

No mowing or tree work

Crews haul junk and debris but don't mow, trim or cut down trees. Schedule landscaping or tree work separately.

2

Watch for hazards

Neglected yards can hide broken glass, nails and wasp nests. Let us know if you've spotted any.

3

Heavy materials add up

Dirt, concrete and pavers are very heavy. Mention large amounts so enough truck capacity is planned.

Quick prep

Getting the yard ready

A few steps help the crew clear the yard quickly.

  1. Mark keepers. Flag planters, tools and decor that stay.
  2. Remove hazardous items. Fuel, paint and chemicals can't be hauled.
  3. Unlock gates. Give the crew access to every part of the yard.
  4. Keep pets inside. Gates will be open during the work.

Weighing your options

Clearing it yourself?

A full yard cleanout can take several weekends of hauling, plus a trailer and trips to the dump, the scrap yard and the compost site. City yard waste programs only take green waste, usually in limited amounts, and won't touch furniture or metal.

Finding a drop-offCall around about charities, landfills and city rulesSorted for donation, recycling or disposal
TimeOften half a day or moreUsually under an hour on site

If you're dealing with a few bags of leaves, the city bin works fine. For mixed junk, big piles and neglected yards, a crew clears it all in one visit.

Yard Cleanout FAQ

Yard junk removal questions

Don't see your question? Send us a note and we'll get back to you within one business day.

What's the difference between yard cleanout and yard waste removal?

Yard waste removal focuses on green waste like branches, leaves, brush and sod. A yard cleanout covers everything outside the house, including old patio furniture, grills, play equipment, fencing, scrap metal and debris piles, along with any green waste. If your yard has a mix of junk and natural debris, a yard cleanout clears it all in one visit. If you're not sure which you need, describe the yard when you book and we'll point you in the right direction.

Do you mow or trim the yard?

No. Crews haul away junk and debris but don't mow, trim hedges, cut down trees or grind stumps. If the yard is heavily overgrown, a landscaper can cut it back first, then the crew can haul away everything that's been cut and piled. Many people schedule a cleanout right before or after landscaping work. Many homeowners schedule the landscaper and the cleanout in the same week for a full reset.

Can you take down a swing set or playhouse?

Yes. Wooden and metal swing sets, playhouses, forts, trampolines and other play equipment can be taken apart on site and hauled away. Posts set in concrete may need to be cut at ground level. Mention any play structures when you book so the crew brings the right tools and enough space on the truck to clear everything. Wooden playsets often come apart into large sections, which keeps the visit efficient.

Do you take tires and scrap metal?

In most areas, yes. Old tires, metal fencing, rusted furniture, grills and other scrap metal can be hauled away. Tires are sent to tire recyclers where they're accepted, and some areas have limits on the number of tires. Metal goes to scrap recyclers. Let us know how many tires you have when you book. Tire rims and wheels can usually go along with the tires as scrap metal.

Can you clear a yard for a property that's being sold?

Absolutely. Yard cleanouts are common before listing a home, especially for inherited or vacant properties. Clearing junk and debris improves curb appeal and makes listing photos look much better. The crew can clear the yard, garage and house together if needed. Let us know your listing date so the cleanout fits your timeline. Clearing the yard early in the listing process gives you time to plant or refresh the lawn.
